Manchester United’s 100% winning streak this season in the Women’s Super League comes to an end against Chelsea with a 3-1 defeat at Leigh Sports Village.
It was the Chelsea team that managed to walk away with the win tonight even with Manchester United causing a stressful 15 minutes in the second half.
Coming into tonight’s match both teams would have known that this would be a difficult game to score in, but it was once we got into the second half that Chelsea started to dominate.
The Goals
In the 60th minute, Sam Kerr made it impossible for the Manchester United defence to stop her from scoring. A misplaced pass from Millie Turner allowed Sophie Ingle to get the ball to Kerr and for her to score the first of the night.
The second goal came from Lauren James only four minutes after the first. Again, it was Kerr who played a vital role as she picked out James allowing the forward to hit the ball first time past Mary Earps.
After a spell of Chelsea dominance United managed to get themselves back into the game in the 71st minute through Alessia Russo. Despite the defeat, that Erin Cuthbert finished off in extra time, Russo would have been happy to get a goal on the night that she returned to the starting line-up.
