The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have appointed former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum as men’s Test coach.
McCullum, 40, has agreed to a 4-year deal, taking charge of his first test on June 2nd against his home nation.
He succeeds Chris Silverwood, who departed his position after the 4-0 series loss to Australia this winter.
The ECB selection panel said McCullum was the “outstanding candidate”.
McCullum was initially seen as a strong choice for the vacant white-ball coaching role but has instead beaten off stiff competition for the red-ball gig.
Currently head coach of Indian Premier League side Kolkata Knight Riders, McCullum has never coached in first class cricket.
