Illan Meslier’s unfortunate own-goal following Adama Traore’s rocket strike gave Wolverhampton Wanderers victory against Leeds United in a close encounter at Molineux.

There was little to separate the two sides as both missed good chances before Traore raced clear of three Leeds defenders hitting a thunderous strike from distance just after the hour-mark onto the crossbar before rebounding off Meslier’s head into the net.

The visitors had numerous chances to equalize when Liam Cooper had two close-range efforts from Raphinha free-kicks saved from Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio.

Bamford thought he’d finally grabbed the equaliser and his 13th goal of the season when he powered home a superb strike after being put through on goal by Tyler Roberts, but it was correctly ruled out for offside before ex-Wolves winger Helder Costa spurned a glorious chance in the final minute by shooting straight at Patricio.

Victory for Wolves means they leapfrog Leeds into 11th in the Premier League table, recording their first back-to-back triumph since October, and their third league win in four games.

Defeat for Leeds, meanwhile, was their second in succession after losing 4-2 to Arsenal last time out, and will feel they should have got something from the game but were wasteful with their numerous chances.
