Neal Maupay’s seventh goal of the season saw Brighton secure valuable three points against Leeds United at Elland Road, and their first win in 10 away fixtures.

Maupay finished off a brilliant flowing move early in the first half as he finished from close-range after Alexis Mac Allister squared the ball to him in the penalty area.

It was Leeds who started off the game brightly when left-back Ezgjan Alioski saw a fine cross fizzle across the Brighton goal with no one to finish it off.

However, Brighton stole the ascendancy when Maupay thought he’d been fouled in the penalty area which the referee correctly ruled out with replays showing that Maupay dived. Soon after, the Frenchman finished off a fine flowing move, scoring his 7th goal of the campaign.

The away side had the chance to pull clear when Leandro Trossard’s deflected shot came back off the crossbar.

Leeds started the second-half strongly but couldn’t find away through Brighton’s solid defence, their only chances coming through substitute Tyler Roberts whose shot was easily saved by Robert Sanchez and Bamford couldn’t connect with a header from a cross.

The hosts had just the two shots on target.

In the end Brighton held out for the crucial three points which took them five points clear off the relegation places with Fulham playing Chelsea in the evening kick-off.

Leeds however remain in 12th place but could find themselves drop further down in the bottom half come the end of the weekend.
