Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha broke their hoodoo of losing on England soil on their seventh attempt since 2016 and collected their first win in Group F.
Their last win came at White Hart Lane against Tottenham Hotspurs.
Dortmund were a potent threat to Newcastle United in contrary by thrashing previous visitors, Paris Saint Germain 4-1.
Both goalkeepers Nick Pope and Gregor Kobel were busy.
Kobel’s heroics in the first half denied Anthony Gordon twice and substitute Callum Wilson’s potential equalizer in the second half.
Pope faced ten shots in the first half including a memorable double save from Donyell Malen and Niclas Fullkrug.
The first twenty minutes were frantic and high tempo from both teams which added ingredients to a special European encounter where both sides have never met before.
Before the first half ended, Dortmund deservedly took the lead. Felix Nmecha made a run into the box, unmarked and executed the shot beautifully and Pope had no chance of saving it.
