Brazilian superstar Neymar could return to the Brazil line-up tonight after he suffered an ankle injury against Serbia in Brazil’s opening game. The magician has often been viewed as Pele’s successor, despite not having won the World cup for his nation yet. Brazil manager Adenor Leonardo Bacchi has provided an update on the player: “Neymar will train today in the afternoon and if he trains well he will play.”
Neymar has suffered a catalogue of injury problems over the years with many stating this is his barrier to becoming the best in the world behind Messi and Ronaldo this generation. He missed the 2019 Copa America after suffering torn ligaments in his ankle and was a devastation for him and his country. Fullback Danilo is fit to return for Brazil and Alex Telles and Gabriel Jesus remain ruled out for the rest of the tournament.
The Brazilian squad also have the weight of Pele’s success on their shoulders, after he, one of the greatest player of all time, was admitted to hospital and is likely to undergo chemotherapy but recently stated to fans he is “strong and full of hope”. The icon is of such importance to this current Brazil side that Brazilian assistant coach Sampaio has asked all fans to “send a prayer” to the football legend.
