Prediction: Liverpool 1-2 Manchester United

Old rivalries are renewed on Sunday afternoon in one of the most eagerly anticipated contests between the two sides in recent memory as Liverpool host Manchester United in the Premier League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side find themselves coming into this fixture top of the league, ahead of their Merseyside rivals, for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, but the United manager is still remaining cautious about making his side the favourites.

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, and his side may also not feel as confident going into a game against United as they have been in previous seasons. The Red Men are without a win in their last three Premier League games and could end the weekend in fourth place if other results go against them.

However, despite their poor away form as of late, their home record still remains formidable, very similar to Man United’s away record this season which has seen The Red Devils take 22 out of a possible 24 points available on the road.

With both sides looking to break each other’s streaks whist also looking to make a statement on this season’s title race, this game is shaping up to be a fascinating watch.

Team News

Solskjaer has confirmed that he will have a more or less fully fit squad ahead of their trip to Anfield, with Brandon Williams and Phil Jones the only notable absentees through injury.

Liverpool fans will be sweating over the fitness of Joel Matip who has trained with the squad for the two days leading up to the game. The central defender has been side-lined since their draw at home to West Bromwich Albion on the 27th of December.
