Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale faces a stern test on Saturday as he returns to the Emirates to face his former club, Arsenal. He will be hoping his return improves his fortunes after a tough start to his Southampton career.

On Ramsdale, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said: “We loved him a lot, he really put his fingerprints at the club.”

Southampton’s tough start to the season sees them in 19th place after a tough defeat at Bournemouth on Monday. Jack Stephens will miss the game, as he is serving a two-match ban for misconduct.

Russell Martin said that Stephens has “accepted everything and moved on.”

Arteta will be hoping that Arsenal can maintain their 15-game unbeaten streak, as a win could see them top of the league. Arsenal have been able to sustain their positive results despite Martin Ødegaard’s injury.

On Ødegaard’s injury, Arteta said: “We had to be different, his impact was too big to replicate with one player.”

In Ødegaard’s absence, Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz have stepped up, with Havertz scoring midweek to help Arsenal to victory against PSG.

When asked about the prospect of Havertz scoring 20 goals this season, Arteta said: “He certainly has all the qualities and the ambition.”
