Russell Martin responded to criticism received after Southampton equaled their joint worst-ever start to a league campaign.
“The opinions that matter are the ones of my bosses and the owners and the people at the club, those that I work alongside every day. As long as I am aware of what they feel and we are all working together, everything else is just noise and irrelevant to my position.” He stated.

The Spaniard has been at the helm for over five years with Martin indicating that he hopes to replicate a similar environment.

“The impact Martin has cannot be replaced so we have to adapt. Adapt to that with the same ambition and determination to win the game.” Stipulating the significant loss has not dampened their spirit.
