McLaren have the chance to secure their first constructor’s title since 1998 at today’s penultimate race in Qatar, the Papaya team sit 30 points clear of closest rivals Ferrari and if that gap increases to 45 then the race for the title will be over and McLaren will go into the final race with their season wrapped up.
Embed from Getty ImagesMcLaren’s hopes were boosted by a positive qualifying session yesterday that saw drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri secure third and fourth on the grid respectively while Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz took fifth and seventh, only separated by Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes.
Red Bull remain in the race but languish 67 points behind the leaders and have had the majority of their points picked up by Max Verstappen, who was crowned driver’s champion last week in Las Vegas. Sergio Perez on the other hand, has only picked up one point in his last 4 outings including sprint races.
