Chelsea travel to Santiago Bernabeu to take on Real Madrid in the champions league quarter-final second leg. Chelsea’s title defence looks uncertain after losing the first leg 3-1.

Both teams come on the back of impressive wins in their domestic leagues. Chelsea put six past Southampton as Real Madrid eased to a 2-0 victory against Getafe.

Chelsea will play for the first time at the Santiago Bernabeu in European competition. No English side has won a UEFA Champions League game by more than a single goal at this venue.

The last side to win both legs against Chelsea in a champions league knockout tie was Bayern Munich in 2019-20 in the round of 16.

Chelsea will break their biggest margin of victory in the champions league knockout game away from home if they beat Real Madrid in the full 90 minutes (won by two goals on three occasions). They scored three goals in this competition away from home only once, beating Liverpool 3-1 in 2008-09.

Real Madrid has advanced to the next round nine times out of 10 after winning their first leg away from home in the knockout stages.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti will look to qualify for the eighth time in the UEFA champions league semi-finals, the joint-most by a coach alongside Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho.

Karim Benzema has scored 11 times in this season’s competition, as many as he managed in the previous two editions of this competition.

No Chelsea player has had more goal contributions under Thomas Tuchel than Christian Pulisic six (3G, 3A). He also grabbed the only goal away to Real Madrid in last season’s semi-final.
