Manchester United travel to San Sebastian needing to beat Real Sociedad by two goals in order to top Group E and progress to the last 16 of the Europa League.
The team finishing second will head into a two-legged play off to qualify for the round of 16.
United have left Jadon Sancho, Antony and Anthony Martial at home to recover from illnesses and injuries respectively. Despite reduced attacking options they still have an in-form Marcus Rashford to call on and Ronaldo is likely to start after Erik Ten Hag praised him in yesterday’s press conference: “Ronaldo is an important part of this group and a leader type,” according to www.manutd.com.
Real Sociedad are coming off two straight defeats in La Liga and have a long list of injured players. Manchester City legend David Silva is expected to miss the game along with Takefusa Kubo.
La Reals’ manager Imanol Alguacil confirmed to Mundo Deportivo that his team will be going for the win despite only needing a draw or 1-0 loss: “If we go out to speculate, to think that a draw is enough, that losing by the minimum is enough, we are going to lose and we are not going to be first in the group.”
