Chelsea manager Frank Lampard defended Mason Mount ahead of the Champions League trip to Rennes on Tuesday.
Lampard told his pre-match press conference: “Maybe he looks clean cut, I think he’s doing one advert at the minute where he takes his top off, that’s about as edgy as Mason gets.”
“I don’t want to add fuel to the fire of him being my son,” said Lampard after praising the midfielder, adding: “Make no mistake, Mason Mount or any player in this squad will not be getting any form of favouritism from me.”
Chelsea, who could qualify if results fall their way, have Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz back in the squad, but continue to be without Christian Pulisic.
For his part, Mount said: “With the fans not in the stadiums a lot of people have got a lot of things to say on social media… so I try to stay off it.”
Rennes’ boss Julien Stephan, likely missing Daniele Rugani and Faitout Maouassa, felt Olivier Giroud struggling for minutes “shows the wealth of these clubs with the options they have.”
On Giroud, tipped to leave in January, Lampard said “I still think he’s got a big contribution for us.”
Dalbert is suspended for Rennes after his sending off in Chelsea’s 3-0 victory in London.
Predicted Score – 0-3
