Tanguy Ndombele scored a superb volley as Tottenham secured a 3-1 triumph against bottom club Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
The former Lyon midfielder latched onto the end of a Steven Bergwijn pass in an awkward before he lobbed back across the goal looping above Aaron Ramsdale and into the back of the net. A superb goal on an afternoon where Tottenham dominated the play despite Sheffield United’s second-half fight back.
Tottenham took the lead only five minutes when right-back Serge Aurier headed in from a Son Hueng-Min corner after a fast start from the visitors.
Spurs grabbed their second just before half-time when Sheffield United gave the ball away on the egde of their area, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg then found Harry Kane in space who drove forward and clinically fired a shot past Ramsdale into the bottom corner, scoring his 12th goal Premier League goal of the season.
Embed from Getty ImagesSheffield United came out of the break strongly and duly deserved their consolation goal when David McGoldrick headed in a deep John Fleck cross to give the home side a lifeline but it wasn’t to be as Tanguy Ndombele scored a stunning lobbed volley to secure the three points for Jose Mourinho’s side.
Spurs came close to scoring a fourth when Harry Kane blazed over the bar in the closing minutes.
The result means Spurs climb into the top four on 33 points with Manchester City playing Crystal Palace in the evening kick-off. Tottenham’s next Premier League game will be against champions Liverpool at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
Sheffield United on the other hand remain at the bottom of the table eleven points from safety with a visit to Manchester United, their next league fixture at Old Trafford.
