Tottenham have put themselves in a tough position in group D of the Europa conference league after a last gasp defeat to Slovenian side NŠ Mura who are ranked 341 in Uefa’s coefficient system.
The Slovenian side took the lead after 11 minutes when Tomi Horvat spun Davinson Sanchez inside out before curling the ball into the top corner leaving Pierluigi Gollini helpless.
The North London side were reduced to ten men after 31 minutes when Ryan Sessegnon received a second yellow card for lunging in on the NŠ Mura defender.
Antonio Conte clearly was not happy with the first half performance and made a quadruple substitution in the 54th minute with Son Heung-Min, Lucas Moura, Ben Davies and Eric Dier replacing Matt Doherty, Dele, Bryan Gil and Joe Rodon.
Captain for the night Harry Kane equalised in the 72nd minute with a delightful chip over the keeper after Lucas slot him in behind.
Tottenham pressed forward for a winner after and had complete possession for most of the second half and missed a number of chances to score the winner.
In the 94th minute Davies gave the ball away in his own half before Amadej Maroša was slotted in behind and again cut inside of Sanchez before the forward’s shot deflected off the Colombian defender and looped over Gollini.
Tottenham now have to match Vitesse Arnhem’s result in their final group game at home to Stade Rennais F.C to secure second place and qualify for the next round.
