Bayern Munich 3 v 1 Tottenham Hotspur

Philippe Coutinho rounded off a strong Bayern Munich display as the German Champions brushed aside a heavily rotated Tottenham Hotspur side three goals to one.

Ryan Sessegnon’s goal was the only bright spark for Spurs tonight as goals from Kingsley Coman, Thomas Muller and Philippe Coutinho subjected them to defeat.

Things carried on as they had left off in the reverse fixture as Coman opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a well-placed finish into the bottom corner after Serge Gnabry found the Frenchman alone in the area.

However, Tottenham retaliated five minutes later through Sessegnon who thumped the ball past Manuel Neuer with a powerful half volley on his full Champions League debut.

Bayern did immediately seek out a second, but their momentum was halted when Coman jolted his knee and had to subsequently be replaced by Muller.

Substitute Muller prodded home the rebound from Alphonso Davies shot on the stroke of half time, doing what Thiago Alcantara had failed to do a minute earlier from Gnabry’s curling shot.

Throughout the second half Philippe Coutinho took shot after shot and seemed determined to score. He finally got his wish in the 64th minute when Coutinho scored with one of his trademark finishes into the bottom corner.

Heung-Min Son came on to add some fresh legs and nearly got a consolation as he went through one on one with Neuer, but the German number one stood firm.

Since both teams were already through this was simply an opportunity to rotate for both squads and both will be looking ahead to the round of 16 draw on December 17th.
