Two quickfire goals in the second half mean Aston Villa head into the fourth round of the FA Cup ahead of Graham Potters side – who took an early lead on his debut game in charge.

Lucas Paqueta opened the scoreline early on, knocking one past Villas Robin Olsen in the 9th minute, after receiving a pass from Crysencio Summerville slightly inside the penalty box.

Despite a strong start for the Irons, they were hit with more injury woes, as striker Niclas Fullkrug exited the pitch early due to a hamstring injury.

With twenty minutes remaining of the 90, Villa began to break through the cracks of the West Ham backline.

Amadou Onana levelled the scoreline in the 71st minute, following a controversial corner – which was given despite not taking a deflection from the opposition.

The home side claimed victory through a Morgan Rogers goal in the 76th minute, as a result of an efficient piece of play consisting of four passes from the goalkeeper to Rogers.

Jacob Ramsey came close to making it three – but rattled the crossbar instead.

Fullkrug’s substitute replacement, Danny Ings had two late chances to put the Irons level, but couldn’t find the back of the net, sending both opportunities wide.

Villa celebrate their 150th anniversary with a win, taking them into the FA cup fourth round for the third time since 2015.

West Ham exit the competition after a disappointing season, but hope to change their bad fortunes due to the arrival of new manager, Graham Potter.
