Home   /   Walid Regragui “aiming for the sky” as Morocco reach the Round of 16

Morocco beat Canada 2-1 to win Group F and qualify for the Round of 16 under head coach Walid Regragui. He said on the nation’s achievement:

“Some believed in us, others didn’t. But we were keen to show that Africa is there. Because Africa is criticized a lot. We have good coaches, good players here. Now we are in 8th. We haven’t done anything yet. We’re enjoying it. We wanted to go down in history! We are happy for the Moroccan people and for the players!”

Hakim Ziyech has hit form at a crucial time for his nation having recently been re-instated under Regragui. On his renaissance he said:

“When you give him love and confidence, he will die for you.

Morocco now await conformation of their Round of 16 opponents, but Walid Regragui believes this team can be destined for big things during this tournament.

“Aim for the sky. We need to change our mentality and we will be a difficult team to beat. Why not dream about winning that trophy? When I came here, the idea was to take a step forward and change the Moroccan mentality. We didn’t just want to participate. I’m happy for the players. They believed in our project. It was not easy”, exclaimed Regragui.
