Many people will be excited for Milan and PSG’s game in the Champions League this Tuesday, but make sure not to forget that Lewes FC will be making their long-awaited European football debut at around the same time.
The Fenix Trophy is a UEFA recognised competition designed to give opportunity for non-league and amateur clubs across Europe.
Only established in 2021, the tournament features a total of twelve teams in four groups of three, with the aim of reaching the final four that will take place in Italy, this coming April.
Lewes FC will be kicking off their European campaign at their home ground: the Dripping Pan. Tony Russell’s side currently sit 10th place in the Isthmian Premier League (the eighth tier of English football), coming from a 2-0 defeat against Margate. Tommy Wood will be the man to watch this fixture as he seeks to look for his third goal in four games.
Visitors FC Oslo have already played a game in the tournament, but it unfortunately ended in a 1-0 defeat against final group members and Belgian side: KSK Beveren. The Norwegian fourth division champions will definitely be seeking redemption by the Sussex coast.
It’s going to be a cold night by the seaside, but I’m sure European football will continue to bring about its everlasting magic.
